The blonde bomber shoots for the top In Elhadji Diouf Senegal have a goal machine ready to lead Senegal away from years of frustration and under achievement. "I will do everything in my power to make Senegal a great footballing nation," he says. Lifting the Nations Cup will be a start. Diouf's dribbling skills and goals have already made him a hit at Lens in France where he is spearheading their challenge for the French title. At international level he has 11 goals in his first 11 games and has stated his ambition to eventually play in the English Premiership. In the World Cup qualifiers Diouf did more than most to get Senegal to their first World Cup with eight goals in the last five games. There were hat-tricks against Algeria and Namibia, the winner against Morocco and a goal in the final game against Namibia. If he has a fault it might be that he is not quite a team player at all times, but then no less a judge than Phillipe Troussier said he would love to have him in his team before Senegal played Japan in October 2001. Diouf proceeded to show exactly why stiking home a superb free kick. Diouf has already stated his club ambitions lie in the English Premiership, but in the mantime he is spearheading Lens' challenge for the French title. He's already a star in France and having only just turned 21 in January 2002 will get bigger with the Nations Cup and World Cup still to come. The football world is at his feet. |
