Turkish football
federation president Haluk Ulusoy wants Beninese referee Coffi Codjia
replaced for Sunday's game with Costa Rica in World Cup Group C.
Ulusoy's demand
to Fifa was prompted by the performance of Kim Young-joo in Turkey's
defeat to Brazil on Monday. The Korean awarded Brazil a late penalty
for Alpay Ozalan's foul on Luizao, even though the incident took
place outside the box.
"Kim Young-joo
could not even referee in the Turkish second division," Ulusoy
stormed. "I don't know where this World Cup is going with these
referees.
"Now a
referee from Benin will be in charge of our game against Costa Rica.
I ask you, do you know where Benin is? Do they even have a league
there?"
It will hardly
encourage Ulusoy that Codjia looked out of his depth in the last
major game he officiated, the African Nations Cup semi-final between
Senegal and Nigeria in February.
Then he sent
off three players, booked four others and was involved in a series
of controversial moments.
Ulusoy also
had words for Rivaldo, who could face a Fifa fine after feigning
injury when Hakan Unsal kicked the ball at him late in Monday's
game.
"I do not
condone or approve of what Hakan did, but Rivaldo held his head
and went down like he was having a brain haemorrhage, even though
the ball hit his legs," he said.
The Turkish
complaints about an official are not the only ones of the tournament.
Russia have succeeded in having British referee Graham Poll removed
from control of their match against Japan. Apparently Poll is unpopular
in Russia after giving a last minute penalty to Slovenia in a qualifying
game which condemned the Russians to defeat.
